1. Open the task scheduler and remove all the tasks.
2. Change Internet Explorer security settings
It is possible to change Windows Internet Explorer security settings. The following is how:

Windows XP last update within the last two months.OK. Somehow my wife used my computer and now there is a virus. It seemed like some sort of pop up with ads. I was at work and she called saying she had to reinstall Norton because it was uninstalled. The copy of Norton was one that I hadn't used in a while. I had been using some other antivirus programs. So a little bit of knowledge is a bad thing. She uninstalls Norton. Now all the antivirus programs I had are disabled. I downloaded AVG and installed that with no problem. However when I went to do the first update it said I was not connected to the internet. Late night so I just shut down and went to bed. Today I get up and try to download the updates but it says the same thing. I ran AVG and it found nothing wrong. I know there is something because it still gets popups and now I can't get online. Firefox and Explorer both load up but when I try to go to a site it says I am not online. I am on another computer in the house and am wireless to the router that the problem computer is hard wired to so I know the router is working and can get online. I guess what I need to do is get something that I can scan the problem computer with without needing to get updates. Anyone have any ideas?
